What is the て (te) Form?

1. Ichidan Verbs (る-verbs) - Simple Rule!

For Ichidan verbs, simply replace  with .

Uses of the て (te) Form

1. Making Requests and Commands

  • 座ってください。 (Suwatte kudasai.) → Please sit.
  • 助けて! (Tasukete!) → Help me!

2. Expressing Ongoing Actions (~ている)

  • 雨が降っている。 (Ame ga futte iru.) → It is raining.
  • 彼は本を読んでいる。 (Kare wa hon o yonde iru.) → He is reading a book.

3. Linking Actions (て form for Sequence of Actions)

4. Asking for Permission (~てもいいですか?)

5. Expressing Prohibition (~てはいけません)
